Spirals to second floor doors: A spiral can also access a door in a wall that continues above the second floor (figure 3). In these cases you need to consider obstructions located on the wall in the vicinity of the spiral. The top landing will attach to the wall in front of the door. If possible plan the landing to be wider than the door so horizontal rail posts can clear the door. Again, watch out for light switches, thermostats, other trim, etc
