Check Headroom: Adequate headroom above the top
floor, where you will exit and enter the spiral, sometimes is a critical
factor that goes unnoticed. Low headroom might occur under low rafters
in attics, or at the sides of chalet or A-frame homes, or any home where
the ceiling goes down to the floor (figure 12). Building codes require
at least 78" headroom above all parts of a spiral stair. Let us know
if this is a consideration for your spiral.
